The FAQ's

Q: How can I tell if the decert was sucessful?

A: Copy and run the secoff.cab to the phone or SD card and execute it if it does not come up with the "This application is not currently signed with an SSL cert" than your phone is now unlocked. Trust me do you think Nextel would have signed that little app :) or you can install a program you know didn't work.

Q: The phone returned an application error after the restore (this was first and second release not reported in 3rd release yet)

A: make sure you reboot your phone after the format to reset and use the changes that were made to the system. This did not cause any known problems.

Q: Where do I find applications now that it is decertified?

A: Do a search this question has been asked so many times. You can search on any major search engine google.com, yahoo.com, msn.com, excite.com just to name a few. Also search hofo and other boards.
handango.com
Microsoft.com
smartphone.net

Q: Why did we release this for FREE?

A: We released this for free because we did not think something like this should be charged for. We only had to make the files and documents basically one time and didn't have to do the phones manually or personally. If it was us to "mod" the phones for each and everyone yes that would have taken a lot of time for us and than donations would have been accepted.

Q: I do not have an SD card can I still install this decert?

A: You need an SD card or you need to purchase a full copy of the Sprite Backup Program to be able to read the backup from another source. It can't read it from the phone cause it is replacing everything on the phone so the backup can't remain and replace itself also.

Q: Will this decert remain after a format?

A: No it will not. If you have ordered the full copy of the backup program you can schedule daily backups so if a phone had to be formatted. All you would have to do is restore the prior day and your back and working with the decert in minutes. If you do not have the full copy you will have to apply it again after the format and than reinstall ALL your programs which can take hours. So simple way buy the backup program and never worry about losing the decert or your applications. Also can restore while away on the road with the backup program without that you have to wait till you get home to apply the decert, and also all your personal information to the phone.

Q: Will BT (Bluetooth) or WiFi work on the phone now?

A: It needs an SDIO port for BT to work if it only had it :) (Private joke) It should work fine if we can get drivers modified for the i930 and there are people working on that.

Q: I get an error installing WordBook "WordBook failed to find WordNet.wbd in your device "

A: Not only was this application not digitally sign and Nextel said this application would work on the i930 the installer for the program doesn't even work correctly either. So much for testing things Nextel. Fix is to copy the WordNet.wbd from the install directory on your PC to where it installed on your phone. Than the program will work.

Q: How do you format?

A: Read the directions :) You have to have you phone powered down than to format press the left softkey and power button at the same time and hold it till you see the format screen come up.

Q: How do I know what version I have?

A: Decert_ = decert first release, Decert1_ = Second release, Decert2_ =Third release and current version. If you installed decert_ or decert1_ there is no need to reformat your phone just run the secoff.cab from your phone to update it to the current release. Thanks to CTitanic for packaging the cab file free for our use.

Q: Decert2_ was restored and my phone is still not decertified what can I do?

A: This has been a known issue on some phones, easiest thing to do is make sure you followed the instructions and restore the decert2_ file again. Most have had success after the second restore and 2 people have had to do three restores. The might have been a stepped missed while restoring or the phone just wouldn't take it for some reason either way a second time fixes the majority. There has been no reports of ANYONE having to do this more than 3 times and no reports of a phone not being able to be decertified this way either.

Q: Where is the Sprite Backup file?

A: That had to be removed even though it reads and says "DEMO" per the following email.

Hi Ted,

My name is Kevin O’Toole and I work for Sprite Software. I have read and downloaded your instructions for decertifying the Nextel i930 phone. I do not care about the hack you are providing but you are offering our software as a download for free. This concerns me greatly and constitutes fraud. Please remove Sprite Backup for Smartphone from the “http://www.rebreathertech.com/decert” download. I would not like to take this further, but as you can understand we cannot afford to have illegal downloads of our software available on the internet. Please remove the download and contact me to confirm it is not available from your site.

Best regards,

Kevin O’Toole
